School Report Card
New Salem Elementary is a nurturing community where students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our dedicated staff fosters a positive school culture centered on ensuring every stakeholder is heard, seen, and valued. New Salem is dedicated to growing learners who reflect Union County’s Portrait of a Graduate. Together, our staff and students engage in project-based learning, AgTech experiences, and collaborative explorations that foster curiosity, teamwork, and real-world problem solving.
Each year, we share updates on our school’s performance through the North Carolina School Report Card. In addition, we keep you informed of your child’s academic progress through weekly folders, ClassDojo messages, progress reports, and report cards.
It is important to remember that the NC School Report Card shows just one part of the learning taking place at New Salem Elementary. The school grade is determined by 80% proficiency in 3rd–5th grade reading, math, and science EOGs, and 20% by how much students grow from one year to the next. Our teachers use data throughout the year to plan lessons and small group instruction that focus on each child’s unique learning needs and help them continue to grow.
During the 2024–2025 school year, New Salem Elementary earned an overall performance grade of B (73%). Our students achieved a 72% proficiency rate with a 76% growth score. New Salem met growth expectations in both reading and math, and demonstrated strong performance in science, with 79% proficiency on the End-of-Grade assessment.
I invite you to review our School Report Card and reach out with any questions or feedback you may have. Your input helps us continue to grow and improve.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for partnering with us to provide your child with the best possible educational experience.
